Reproducible automation solution

In new developments as in retrofits, the engineering company Brodbeck values safety solutions and components from Pilz, which can be transferred to several plants. For example, the control system PNOZmulti 2, the safety gate system PSENmlock and the coded safety switch PSENcodehttp://www.pilz.com

As part of a redesign of a cardboard tube cutting machine, Brodbeck needed to modernise the control system and electronics, and also implement a new safety solution.

Metro more Punctual

Three metro lines meet at what is known as the Triangle, right under the heart of the city of Antwerp. Control and monitoring systems ensure that only one train can enter the station at any one time. The old technology was proving increasingly susceptible to faults, so action had to be taken. The PSS 4000-R has been handling the control and safety tasks since 2015. If two trains arrive virtually simultaneously, the automation system decides which has priority. As well as points and light signals, PSS 4000-R also controls and monitors the sensors and detectors located in the track bed that are responsible for keeping two trains at least a minimum distance apart. http://www.pilz.com

Safety and Control Tasks

The railway technology specialist Schweizer Electronic AG offers innovative solutions to safeguard construction sites, level crossings, and radio remote control systems for locomotives. For the remote control of a freight train locomotive from Bombardier the automation system PSS 4000-R(ail), acts as an interface between receiver and locomotive control system, checking the signals for feasibility and consistency, and ensuring the required safety in accordance with SIL3. http://www.pilz.com

AGRICULTURE

The intelligence of the machine in the service of soil wellness also goes through Selet’s products. Our company offers efficient products for applications in the agricultural sector, which, over the last decades, has increasingly moved towards automation, distancing workers from the mere figure of a farmhand. http://www.selet.it

Agriculture is in constant evolution; if we think of it in its traditional vests, it seems quite of a contradiction to match it with the 4.0 idea. For this reason, the experts of the sector – employers, managers, engineers, agricultural workers, etc.- are studying and developing innovative approaches to improve crop yields resulting from the constant population growth and the difficulties caused by climate changes.

Solidity, robustness and high quality are the features that best describe our products that find their place in the agricultural field. Instruments capable of both handling uneven grounds, undergoing shocks and vibrations and being waterproof and rustproof.

Powerful controller for every drive

When converting to the Industrial Ethernet Standard Profinet with TCP/IP Xactools opted for PMCtendo DD5 from Pilz. Thanks to the new servo amplifiers it is possible to drive servo, asynchronous and linear motors, rotary direct drives and servo linear actuators from almost any manufacturer. The internal programming option in the servo controller enables PMCtendo DD5 to approach target positions particularly quickly. The required positions can be entered directly in SI units (mm, m, etc.). PMCtendo DD5 from Pilz increases the productivity of a plant and reduces the customer’s downtimes and inventory and operating costs. http://www.pilz.com

Rapid-reaction safety

SRW opted for a barrier-free safety solution from Pilz in two different plants: Light curtains PSENopt II safeguard the process on a cartoner filling station, which erects cartons fed in via conveyor technology and then has a robot stack them in transport containers. They enable flexible loading and unloading, without disrupting the production process. PSENopt II are also used on an assembly cell where components are first placed in position and then pressed into a printed board. Here they ensure that hazards caused by the integrated 6-axis robot, the servo press and/or the moveable round table are excluded. http://www.pilz.com

More flexibility for control and operation

So when developing the case erector Tablomat LE a new, sustainable automation and safety concept was included. The requirement was for diagnostic data from the sensors to be available to the machine controller in real-time so that the plant operator can retain a complete overview of the machine status. There are four safety gates on the machine and each use the non-contact safety gate system PSENslock. It performs the safe position monitoring and process guarding. The safety controller PNOZmulti 2 monitors the safety gates and the installed E-STOP pushbutton and guarantees the exchange of diagnostic data via fieldbus module with the PLC. With this efficient solution, fast format changes and fast, simple adaptation of sensor and actuator technology can easily be implemented. http://www.pilz.com

Safety and automation

In particular, PSS 4000 ensures safe control and communication between the overall system and the subsystems, such as the drive controller, remote monitoring system or visualisation.
The automation system is programmed and set up using the software PAS4000. Special deactivation concepts are also part of the solution. “Deactivation concepts are measures that continue to guarantee operation if individual subsystems should fail” says Hansruedi Schleiss, Frey AG Stans. The decisive factor for choosing this solution from Pilz was that the automation system PSS 4000 can control both safety and automation functions. This means that differentiation is no longer necessary between these two functions. http://www.pilz.com

Avoiding risks during bottle filling

There are many individual steps behind the bottling of mineral water, and therefore many plant components, from the blow-moulding/filler block that blow-moulds, fills and seals PET bottles, a complex design of conveyors conveys bottles to control and labelling stations and finally to the packaging machines and palletisers.

Risk assessment for packaging machines

To determine which risks are possible when operating the plant and which protective measures are necessary, ACMI, manufacturer of complete end-of-line systems and packaging machinery, consulted with its long-standing partner Pilz. monitoring of the safety functions is performed by the configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2 that communicates with the plant automation system via Profinet. Coded, non-contact safety switches PSENcode prevent manipulation and ensure that the minimum distance is maintained.
